Intercede for the Francophonie

“Intercede for the Francophonie” was a prayer event organized by the Francophonie churches of the Maritime District PAOC on Nov 4, 2017. The event took place at Église Évangélique de la Pentecôte, Village-Blanchard, NB Canada.  It was a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship with the pastors and families of the French speaking churches of the Maritime. Below are some of the highlights of the event.

What churches have to do?

Deployment is a word, often used in the military, for sending troops into duty.

A soldier could be deployed to the battle front when war breaks. Deployment refers to assigning people to serve in various locations, especially soldiers and other military personnel.

As ministers of God, we are all deployed in the front line of the battle.

Any soldier would have two responsibilities,

  1. To protect his nation
  2. To fight for the cause

No doubt we are all in a battle field. We are not talking about a physical battle, we are talking about a spiritual battle.

Two responsibilities of a Soldier.

  1. Protect his nation
  • Need to protect the sheep that are already in the stall
  • Need to protect our family, our health
  • Our church, our vision, our nation
  • The enemy is out there robbing everything.
  • He has taken health from us, (terminal illnesses, premature death) he left us financially bankrupt, enemy has robbed our children from the churches, ( I am not talking about the churches in NB or Acadian churches, etc., talking in general)
  • He has robbed peace, joy from our families.
  • We need protection.
  • The Spirit of Antichrist is a destructive Spirit, that is already in the world. Paul calls him as man of lawlessness and the son of destruction.
  1. Fight for the cause

What is the cause – advancing the kingdom, leading people to the cross, bringing life transformations.

How do we do this?  Scripture says, by binding the strong man. Mark 3:27 No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.

Today many are bound by the power of darkness.  That power needs to be dispelled.

If we need to rescue those souls, we need to bind the strong man.

We need to protect ourselves and advance in the battle.  Both a shield and a sword are essential in this battle.  Shield is to protect & sword is to advance.

We are stepping into enemy’s territory

Enemy has already damaged our communities:

  1. Compulsion to abuse women and children, homicides, murder,
  2. Sexual perversion and immorality (homosexuality, prostitution, human trafficking, pornography, abortion, thriving sex industries, rape & sexual violence, molestation, etc.);
  3. A compulsion to abuse the body (drugs, alcohol, gluttony, abuse or misuse of other substances, etc.);
  4. Seeking spiritual knowledge through Eastern religions and other counterfeit religious groups (TM, Yoga, humanism, etc.)
  5. Involvement in occult practices (fortune-telling, Voodoo, Satanism, Medium, etc.);
  6. Mental distress or oppression (anxiety, fear, anger, disorientation, etc.);
  7. Psychological disorders (split and multiple personalities, paranoia, etc.);
  8. Demon caused physical disorders and infirmities
  9. Lack of freedom or joy in the Lord (spiritual bondage);
  10. Constant refusal or rebellion to repent of sin

Remember we are not dealing with people, we are dealing with the power of Satan, the power of Antichrist.

Ephesians 6:12-13 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

How do we deliver these people?  Having a dialog with them is not going to release them.  You can invite them for a coffee and sing couple of songs and show a video.  Then what?

They need to be delivered form the strong holds.

We need to engage in a Spiritual Warfare

God is calling the leaders and the churches to engage in a spiritual warfare that is already going on.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

We are soldiers of God.  We are not compromisers, we are not quitters, but we are faithful soldiers

How do we engage in this spiritual battle.  There is a war that is already going on.  A spiritual battle.

This spiritual battle can be conquered only by Prayer. Not just prayer, but by intercession.

Intercession is

  • Praying on behalf of someone
  • It’s mediating and pleading for another
  • Intercepting the enemy on their behalf
  • Attempting to rescue the souls at the cost of your own comfort, own time and effort.

Section-1: Biblical basis for Intercession:

God is seeking for intercessors

  • Watchmen – Isaiah 62:6 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
  • Intercessor – Isaiah 59:16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.
  • Upholder – Isaiah 63:5 I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me.
  • One who takes Hold of God – Isaiah 64:7And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities.
  • One who stands in the Gap – Ezekiel 22:30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

God seeks intercessors

  • 49Million people died in this year alone with majority going into the eternal darkness without Christ – intercession is the only hope
  • Millions of dollars of effort go in vain in the mission field because there is no or little intercession
  • Millions living in the world today as if they never had Son of God to die for them
  • Millions bearing Christian names live in utter ignorance and indifference
  • Millions of sick Christians, wearied workers
  • Churches and missions sacrificing lives and labor often with little result
  • No intercession, intercession is the only hope.

God seeks intercessors.

There is no special calling for intercessors in the Bible, everyone is called to intercede, but those who heed the call to intercede are special class of “super-Christians”.  Remember there is a price tag attached to this call.

There is a third magnitude to which our eyes must be opened: the wondrous privilege and power of intercession.

Know our position:

What is our identity in Christ?

Peter uses two words “Holy” & “Royal” to declare the ministry of a NT believer .  1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood

  • The priest’s responsibility is to stand before God and between man and God.
  • The priests stand between a righteous God and sinful man bringing them together at the place of the blood sacrifice.
  • Kings call is to rule the kingdom with the authority. The authority to destroy anything raising against his kingdom and to save his people
  • King has a legitimate access to the throne room of God

What are we interceding for?

  • Interceding for the protection of the land and for the people.
    • That God’s wrath may not destroy the land
    • Devil may not cause disasters and calamities
  • Against deception
  • Against spiritual strongholds
  • To bind the strong man according to Mark 3:27
  • For salvation of souls
  • For life transformation of Christians
  • For the effectiveness of the mission work inland and overseas
  • For the hell to be plundered and the heaven to be populated

Don’t lose track, Stay focused on the target.  Target is “Souls”, “Souls” only “Souls”

Know the enemy

We need to know against whom we are fighting.  Need to discern the spiritual forces behind.

  • The Old Serpent, Walks like a roaring lion, Deceiver, Devourer, Spirit of Antichrist, Power of hell,

When we lead people to Christ, If there is a demonic influence, it is not going to go away by counseling or a dialogue, we need to pray about it.

Attitude of our hearts

  • We need burden for souls,
  • We need the heart of Christ,
  • We need love for others
  • We need to know their eternity
  • Commitment, willing to pay the price

Section – 2: Engaging in Warfare

Ephesians 6:12-13 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Total surrender

Surrender, ask forgiveness, cleanse, be washed in the blood.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Wear the armor of God

Wear the armor of God according to Ephesians 6:10-19 – the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit.

  • To protect yourself
  • Protect your family
  • Build a fire wall around you – Zechariah 2:5  For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”

Involve the heaven & just be an agent

Connect with God, know His heart, allow the Holy Spirit to intercede.  Let God share His burden to you.

Be ready to be moved by the Holy Spirit

Cry and tearsHebrews 5:7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear

Jeremiah 9:1 Oh, that my head were waters, And my eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For the slain of the daughter of my people!

Praying in tonguesRomans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Now let your request be made known to GodPhilippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Stand firm in faith – 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV) Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

Come in Jesus Name  – 1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

See the victory – Exodus 14:13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

What churches have to do?

God seeks intercessors.

  • Raising intercessors is the duty of the local church pastors
  • We need to make our church a training school of intercession
  • Give them definite targets for prayer, definite time
  • Empower them on the scriptural basis
  • Conduct Holy Spirit anointing meetings, lay hands on them to receive the fire anointing
  • Encourage them on their daily walk with the Lord
  • Develop boldness and courage within them to fight the battle
  • Teach them to expect and look out for answers.
  • As the mission team forefront the initiative of reaching out the community, let the intercessors team up and pray in secret, behind the scene.
  • Show them the result of prayer by pointing them to the souls that are saved in every mission outreach
  • Include everybody who are saved and anointed in the intercessory team, there is no difference. Daily wage workers, laborers, nurses, doctors, teachers, care givers, carpenters, plumbers, educated uneducated, young and old, serving and retired, called or not called, unemployed or business men  all are needed.

God seeks intercessors.

When we pray like this revival will break forth. Souls will be added to the church as it happened in the days of the early apostles.
