Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It’s also key to a good relationship with oneself and others.

Regular Exercise 

³ Regular exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only does regular exercise help you manage your weight and reduce the risk of developing diseases, it can help prevent and treat mental health problems. It can boost your well-being and mood, and is a great way to unwind from the stresses of life.

  • It stimulates the development of the muscles, bones and joints, as well as the heart and lungs.
  • It gives us an opportunity to interact with other people and make friends.
  • It can help young people manage symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Good Nutrition

³ The food we eat has the potential to either keep us healthy or contribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert. Eating the right foods can help prevent short-term memory loss and inflammation, both of which can have long-term effects on the brain and, in turn, the rest of the body. 

Sleep Well

³ Sleep is really important to your health, both physically and mentally. However, sleeping well can sometimes be a challenge. If you miss out on a night or two’s sleep, it isn’t harmful. But if your sleepless nights go on for longer, it can really take its toll, and may suggest you have insomnia. There are some simple things you can try to help you get a good night’s sleep, so don’t put up with endless restless nights.

Keep Track of Time

³ It is extremely important to keep track of time for our self-care. Writing down the list of things you have to do in a given day or a week will significantly help you organize your activities. It will help you see the exact amount of tasks you need to finish in the specific time.

Talk Positive

³ Positive self-talk makes you feel good about yourself and the things that are going on in your life. It’s like having an optimistic voice in your head that always looks on the bright side.It might not seem like much, but self-talk is a huge part of our self-esteem and confidence. By working on replacing negative self-talk with more positive self-talk, you’re more likely to feel in control of stuff that’s going on in your life and to achieve your goals.

Journaling

Writing down your thoughts is a proven tactic to help strengthen emotional health. Journaling or keeping a diary, and writing in it for at least a few minutes everyday helps reduce stress and unwind, especially in the morning after waking up or evening before sleeping. Journaling about your day sharpens your memory and allows you to reflect on the actions that you took that day. Journaling based on prompts (example: What am I grateful for today?) is also a simple and effective self care tool to boost mental health.

Do Something Creative

1 Take some time to do something creative. Whether it’s painting, creative writing or designing something for fun, doing something creative will allow you to relax a little and it has the ability to inspire fresh ideas so that you can go back to work with a new attitude and energy.

Stay Hydrated

Always ensure you are hydrated. Drink water whenever you feel thirsty, because the amount of water a person needs is based on the individual. Water helps maintain the balance of biochemicals and organs in your body. In general, aim to drink at least 2-3 cups of water an hour. Hydration is a type of self care to ensure your mind is clear and focused throughout the day.

Learn new skills

In this modern world we can get easily worn down by the routine. However, we have access to a vast wealth of knowledge. Learning something new is beneficial to keeping the brain active and flexible. Any skill, no matter how small, helps boost confidence in your ability and increases your adaptability to situations. This self care technique is beneficial to help the mind work unwind while still remaining active.

Maintain Good Personal Hygiene

² Personal Hygiene plays a major role in our everyday life.The practice of personal hygiene contributes to good health. Personal hygiene helps in protection against some of the infectious diseases. . Poor personal hygiene often leads to awful body odor as a result of accumulated sweats that harbor bacteria. It is thus important to maintain good personal hygiene since such body odors socially inhibit interactions. Good personal hygiene projects a positive body image and a good personality.
